A camera-based driver monitoring system that uses a neural network to determine driver attentiveness from face position, gaze direction, and arm/hand pose, enabling partially automated longitudinal and lateral vehicle guidance.
Abstract
A motor vehicle configured to take over at least partially automated transverse and/or longitudinal guidance is provided with a camera system that acquires image data of the driver and a connected driver monitoring system. The monitoring system determines the driver’s level of attention by extracting face position, gaze direction, and arm and hand pose from the camera images as inputs to an artificial neural network, which then estimates the driver’s attentiveness based on these inputs.
